In the award-winning production by D’Agostin, Marta Ciappina invites us, through dance, words, music and images, to reflect on the sense of memory and the relationship with the past through histories both great and small.
What does the passing of the years represent? What is the relationship between individual and collective memory? How can a life be danced? These are the questions that form the foundation of Gli anni.
Drawing cues from the book of the same name by Annie Ernaux – in which the writer imagined that the life of the lead character ran on two perpendicular lines, with ordinary events along the horizontal, and significant moments along the vertical –, D’Agostin has created a choreography that seeks to repair the split between past events and the way they are perceived ex post, cloaked in a strange sense of unreality.
Marta Ciappina – a unique figure in the panorama of Italian dance in terms of career and technique – invites spectators to play with memory, in a plot that interweaves histories both great and small, evoking news events, songs, pages from literature and fragments of a common past.
Duration: 55’ without intermission
