Six actors, a range of languages spoken, a meeting at the summit to organise. Christoph Marthaler combines theatre, song and music in a new international co-production.
The German word for summit is Gipfel, a word that describes the peak of a mountain, a political meeting, and... a croissant. Which is it in this case? Will Christoph Marthaler be dealing with expert mountaineers, political delegations or bakers?
As is often the case with the Swiss director, the answers to these questions are unclear. Someone who has just made the pastry takes to the microphone and addresses the world’s nations. Someone who has just driven the pitons into the rock suddenly breaks into song with Lassù sulla montagna.
Only one thing is certain: Marthaler sets off for an expedition into unhospitable lands with a group of Italian, French, Swiss, Austrian and Scottish actors and musicians for a meeting... at the summit.
A multi-lingual performance with surtitles
Duration: the play is currently in production
