Teatro Strehler
In A Versailles improvisation (L’Impromptu de Versailles), written in 1663, Molière summarizes the experience of Italian comic theatre and in particular the Commedia dell’Arte, with the aim of founding a new form of character and costume comedy. The great French comedy writer and theatre company head felt it was necessary to produce plays which attracted audiences, not only those of Paris and the courts, but also the “galleries eager to be pleased”. The rewriting of the work by Stefano Massini, Paolo Rossi (pictured) and Giampiero Solari sets out to examine in detail the art of comedy, blending tradition and modernity with rigour and poetry. What emerges is an enjoyable representation of the daily life of theatre people seeking a masterpiece amongst excerpts from the most famous comedies and the extraordinarily fascinating biography of the Great French writer. A journey through the theatre, the operas and the biography of Molière, a behind-the-scenes story of a company in rehearsals which has to quickly get a production together, a new comedy which brings together in a play of temporal and existential reflections the work and life of the company head Molière and the company head character of Paolo Rossi.
