Gabriele Lavia returns to the Piccolo with a reading dedicated to the figure of Oedipus, a symbol for human intelligence that seeks to resolve all possible enigmas, driven by the desire for knowledge and truth, and willing to accept the weight, even when it can lead to ruin.
In the event of bad weather, the shows will be performed in the Teatro Grassi.

Gabriele Lavia returns to the Piccolo Teatro with the reading of King Oedipus by Sophocles.
“Aristotle considered King Oedipus to be the “perfect expression of the brilliance of Greek tragedy”. The work is considered to be Sophocles’s masterpiece and a model for the mechanisms of Greek tragedy. A terrible pestilence caused by the rage of Apollo strikes the people of Thebes during Oedipus’s reign. The plague could be overcome with the discovery and punishment of the king’s assassin. The plot of the tragedy is the investigation that Oedipus himself carries out in order to find the mysterious assassin of King Laius, who governed the city of Thebes before the arrival of Oedipus. Until the assassin is found and banished from the city, Thebes will be infected by the plague. Oedipus immediately begins searching for the assassin without realising that he is looking for himself. He is the guilty party that needs to be banished. He is the plague infecting the city. Man is always the cause of mankind’s problems. The man who had saved the city by revealing the mystery of the “Sphinx” now discovered he is the cause of the problems of Thebes. He assassinated his father and married his mother. Jocasta hanged herself. Oedipus blinded himself. Oedipus’s cries of pain echo in the darkness of a blindness that seems to be the destiny of mankind. Mankind driven by the desire for knowledge, until it meets its end “and if there is an evil worse than all other evils, that was the fate of Oedipus””.
