The festival IMMERSIONI. laboratorio di linguaggi performativi nei quartieri, a project organised by mare culturale urbano and the Piccolo, due to take place in our venues from 9 to 14 September under the artistic direction of Andrea Capaldi, takes its cue from the importance of the social and civil role of the artist. This first edition centres on the results of a number of study projects and artistic residencies based on the relationship between the artist, citizens and their ideas.
Teatro Grassi
The two most recent works to emerge from a study on participatory dramaturgy resulting from the call Indagine Milano, with the citizens from four outlying districts of Milan, are staged at the Teatro Grassi with the performance bioluminescenze by Bruna Bonanno and GianMarco Porru, and ZETA 4 by CORPORA.
bioluminescenze is a multimedia tale whose title is based on the chemical phenomenon by which certain organisms in nature, for example fireflies, emit light. The firefly, whose allure has been adopted as the focal point for the stage play and the sets, has also been elected as the symbol of the Baggio district, where the project was created and written. the aim of the study is to extend the visible beyond reality, examining and proposing a feasible representation of the suburbs through the lens of - and from the viewpoint of - fiction.
Bruna Bonanno (Catania, 1997) is a playwright and philosophy scholar based in Naples. She graduated in 2018 from the course in Theatrical Writing at the Civic School of Theatre of the Teatro Paolo Grassi, Milan, and in 2020 began a three-year degree course in Philosophy at the Cattolica University in Milan, with a thesis in the History of Aesthetics. She is currently taking a master’s course in Philosophy at the Federico II University in Naples. Her work centres on the world of fable, which is chosen as the main instrument to observe, understand and change reality. GianMarco Porru (Oristano, 1989) is a visual artist who lives and works in Milan. He graduated in 2017 with a degree from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. His work is based in the field of contemporary art, favouring the languages of video, performance and photography. His studies focus on cultural narration and in particular on written and oral accounts analysed from within specific communities.
What do rappers and elderly people have in common? Can these two custodians of memory and the present communicate with each other in some way? What languages, what visions can create a dialogue to express the multitude of cultural and human strata in a district? ZETA 4 is a project that takes the chosen district of Calvairate as a cue for an examination of the relationships and presences that bring life and identity to a specific location. For a number of years, the district has been an important focal point in Milan for rap music, a language that is native to the social fabric of a space, presenting it through contemporary forms of expression.
CORPORA is a theatrical company whose components are all under the age of 35, and whose work is based on a study of contemporary drama. The company is composed of Giulia Sangiorgio, director, Eliana Rotella, playwright, and Chiara Donadoni, organiser, who all graduated from the Civic School of Theatre of the Teatro Paolo Grassi. Their studies are based on an examination of the contemporary through a range of themes and from a number of points of view both existential and social.
