«Like in a dual voyage, towards the Other within us and towards the Other outside of us»; Theodoros Terzopoulos, one of the masters of Twentieth-century theatre, directs an exceptional cast for his personal reading of the mysterious masterpiece by Samuel Beckett.

Teatro Grassi
Theodoros Terzopoulos, one of the grand masters of theatre, takes on the masterpiece by Samuel Beckett – one of the most famous works of the tradition of “theatre of the absurd” – the story of which is based on a dialogue between two characters suspended in a mysterious wait. «I have been working with and studying Beckett for 25 years – explains the director, famous for his innovative approach to Greek theatre –. I have discovered a relationship characterised by the annihilation of passion, of heroism, of mania; many elements of the form of tragedy that Beckett swept aside to start anew. This grey area created by the Dublin-born Nobel prize winner, suspended between life and death, interests me greatly. It is of a grey that holds many shades of black. I am also interested in the sarcasm and the irony that finds fertile ground with Beckett, elements that we already encounter in classic satirical drama. If Beckett is related to Greek theatre, it is there that we need to look, through the sarcasm, the self-annihilation, for the fact that a fixed position is never created, but rather the negation of that position, and so you then have to work on the negation of the negation in order to identify a new position, which will be a further negation. The area is grey, but its sound is not sad.»
